Standard HIV test £95
This is a very sensitive screening test which will detect HIV very accurately if more than 12 weeks have passed since the initial infection. Results are available within 15 minutes. The name of this test is the Abbott Determine HIV 1 and 2 point-of-care test.
The P24 Antigen/Antibody Test (the ‘28 Day HIV Test') £125
P24 antigen is a protein derived from the HIV virus. It becomes detectable in a blood sample for a short period after infection (normally from 2 to 5 weeks) and rapidly becomes undetectable when antibodies to HIV start to develop. It is therefore useful in identifying early HIV infection.
Early HIV test £185
The HIV Pro-Viral DNA/RNA test will detect infection which has occurred at any time up to 10 days before the day of the test with a 96-99% sensitivity. If you are worried that you have had a fairly recent exposure to the virus, you may prefer to have this test – but remember that at least 10 days should have elapsed since your exposure. Results take 4-6 days.
